Lake Magog Lodge, No. 55 has presented a $10,000 donation to the Société Alzheimer de l’Estrie on January 10. The presentation, which took place at the society’s Sherbrooke headquarters, demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and their families.

David Bouffard, a Master Mason with Lake Magog Lodge, revealed that the donation was part of their district-wide fundraising campaign, coinciding with the lodge’s 150th anniversary celebrations. “Each year, Freemasons from our district select a project to support. This year, through various activities including bowling and other fundraising events, we managed to raise $10,000,” Bouffard explained. The funds were distributed between supporting a fellow member in Quebec City living with Alzheimer’s and the Société Alzheimer de l’Estrie.
The lodge members’ decision to support the Société Alzheimer de l’Estrie held personal significance. Bouffard mentioned that their choice was inspired by a personal connection to someone affected by the disease. “Our values center on friendship, growth, and community service. We strive to transform rough stones into perfect ones—it’s a continuous life journey,” he explained, referencing Masonic philosophy.
Caroline Giguère, Executive Director of the Société Alzheimer de l’Estrie, warmly acknowledged the generous contribution. “I’m deeply grateful and touched that they chose our organization,” she remarked following the presentation. Giguère noted the significance of being selected among many worthy causes and emphasized how this donation will make a direct impact in the community.
The donated funds will support the development of a new respite care home, scheduled to open in 2026. This facility will provide short-term accommodations, from one to seven nights, designed to give caregivers essential breaks while ensuring their loved ones receive professional care. “This donation will be directly invested in the respite home,” Giguère explained, highlighting the project’s importance for caregiver support and wellness.
